Anti-wrinkle Treatments in Larkfield, Kent
Anti-wrinkle injections are the most popular non-surgical aesthetic treatment in the world — and when done well by a skilled, medically trained practitioner, the results are subtle, natural, and transformative. At Larkfield Dental Aesthetics, we use botulinum toxin to gently soften expression lines and treat a range of functional and aesthetic concerns across the face and beyond.
The basics
What are anti-wrinkle injections?
Anti-wrinkle injections use a highly purified form of botulinum toxin — a protein that temporarily relaxes the muscles responsible for creating expression lines. When these muscles contract less forcefully, the overlying skin smooths out, and lines that have formed through repeated movement become less visible.
The treatment is precise, quick, and requires no downtime. Results develop over five to fourteen days and typically last three to four months, after which the muscles gradually return to normal function. With regular treatment, many patients find that lines become less deep over time as the muscles naturally lose some of their strength.
At Larkfield Dental Aesthetics, botulinum toxin is only administered following a consultation and a valid prescription issued by a qualified prescriber. We follow all current regulatory guidelines and use only licensed products.
Is it right for you?
When would you consider anti-wrinkle treatment?
Anti-wrinkle injections can address both cosmetic concerns and certain functional issues. You might consider treatment if:
Forehead lines
Lines on your forehead that bother you — whether just when you raise your eyebrows (dynamic lines) or visible at rest (static lines).
Frown lines
The '11 lines' between the eyebrows that can make you look tired or stern.
Crow's feet
Fine lines around the eyes that you'd like softened for a more rested look.
Gummy smile
Your gums are very visible when you smile and you'd like to reduce this.
Lip flip
You'd like a subtle lip flip — a small injection that gently curls the upper lip outwards for more definition.
Excessive sweating
You sweat excessively in the underarms (hyperhidrosis) and would like this treated.
Neck bands
Prominent neck bands (platysma bands) that you'd like reduced.
Jaw slimming
A wide or square jawline due to enlarged masseter muscles (often from teeth grinding) that you'd like slimmed.
Chin dimpling
A 'dimpled' or 'peau d'orange' chin texture you'd like smoothed.
Treatment areas
Our anti-wrinkle treatment areas
We treat the following areas at Larkfield Dental Aesthetics.
Upper & Lower Face
The most commonly treated areas are in the upper face: the forehead (horizontal lines caused by raising the eyebrows), the glabella or frown area (vertical lines between the brows, often called the '11s' or frown lines), and the crow's feet (the fine lines at the outer corners of the eyes caused by smiling and squinting).
Lower face anti-wrinkle treatment addresses lines around the mouth, chin dimpling, and the downward pull of muscles that contribute to a downturned mouth. These areas require precise technique and a thorough understanding of lower facial anatomy — an area where our dental background gives us a significant advantage.
Gummy Smile Correction
A gummy smile — where a significant amount of gum is visible above the upper teeth when smiling — is a concern for many patients. For some, it's simply a feature they've always been self-conscious about; for others, it develops or worsens with age.
A small, precisely placed injection of botulinum toxin into the muscle that elevates the upper lip limits how high the lip rises when smiling, reducing the amount of gum on show. Results are subtle and natural — you'll still smile expressively, just with less gum visible. The treatment takes just a few minutes and results last three to four months.
Lip Flip
A lip flip is a subtle treatment using a small amount of botulinum toxin injected into the orbicularis oris muscle just above the upper lip. This causes the lip to relax and gently roll outwards, making it appear slightly fuller and more defined — without actually adding volume.
It's a popular choice for patients who feel their upper lip disappears when they smile, or who want a little more definition without committing to lip filler. It can also be used alongside lip filler to enhance the overall result.
Anti-sweat Treatment (Hyperhidrosis)
Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) — most commonly affecting the underarms — can be significantly reduced with botulinum toxin injections. The toxin temporarily blocks the nerve signals that stimulate sweat glands, dramatically reducing sweating in the treated area.
Treatment involves a series of small injections across the affected area. Results typically last six to twelve months — considerably longer than in facial areas — making it a popular and highly effective treatment for patients whose sweating affects their quality of life or confidence.
Platysma Band Treatment (Neck Bands)
The platysma is a broad, thin muscle that runs from the upper chest up through the neck to the lower face. As we age, this muscle can become more prominent, creating visible vertical bands running down the neck — sometimes called 'turkey neck'.
Botulinum toxin injections along these bands relax the muscle, softening their appearance and creating a smoother, more defined neck and jawline. It can also have a subtle lifting effect on the lower face. This is a more advanced treatment that requires specific expertise and anatomical knowledge.
How it works
What happens during the treatment?
Anti-wrinkle treatment is quick. Once your consultation is complete and the treatment plan is agreed, the injections themselves typically take just 15–30 minutes depending on the number of areas being treated.
Consultation
We assess your facial muscles, discuss your goals, and agree a treatment plan. Treatment only proceeds with a valid prescription from a qualified prescriber.
Treatment
A very fine needle places small amounts of botulinum toxin into the specific muscles. Most people describe a brief pinch — no anaesthetic is usually needed.
Back to your day
There's no downtime. You can return to normal activities immediately after treatment.
Results & review
Effects begin in three to five days and peak around two weeks. We recommend a review so we can assess the result and make any refinements.
Most patients describe the sensation as a small, brief pinch. No anaesthetic is typically needed, though we can apply a numbing cream to particularly sensitive areas if preferred. Results begin to appear within three to five days and reach their full effect at around two weeks. A review appointment at two weeks is recommended so we can assess the result and make any refinements.
Results & aftercare
How long do results last?
Anti-wrinkle results typically last three to four months in most facial areas. Anti-sweat treatment lasts considerably longer — often six to twelve months. With regular treatment over time, many patients find they can extend the interval between appointments as the muscles gradually weaken.
To maintain your results:
- ✓ Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area for at least 24 hours after treatment.
- ✓ Avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, and excessive heat for 24 hours.
- ✓ Stay upright for four hours after treatment — avoid lying down.
- ✓ Don't have a facial, massage, or any other treatment to the area for at least two weeks.
- ✓ Attend your two-week review so we can assess the result and address any areas that need topping up.
- ✓ Book your next treatment as the results begin to wear off — most patients return every three to four months.
- ✓ Good skincare, sun protection, and staying hydrated all help to maintain and complement your results.

Questions
Frequently asked
Is botulinum toxin the same as Botox®? +
Botox® is the most well-known brand name for botulinum toxin type A, but there are other licensed brands available including Azzalure® and Bocouture®. At Larkfield Dental Aesthetics, we use only licensed, approved botulinum toxin products. For legal reasons, we cannot advertise specific brand names in our marketing materials, but we're happy to discuss the products we use at your consultation.
Will anti-wrinkle injections make me look frozen? +
Not when done correctly and conservatively. The 'frozen' look is the result of overtreatment — using too much product, placing it imprecisely, or treating too many areas at once. Our approach is conservative and natural. We'd rather achieve a subtle result that we can build on than over-treat from the start.
At what age should I start anti-wrinkle treatment? +
There's no right or wrong age. Some patients start in their late twenties as a preventive measure — treating lines before they become static (visible at rest). Others start in their forties or later when lines have already developed. The best time to start is when you feel bothered by something you'd like to address. We'll give you honest advice based on your individual situation.
Can I have anti-wrinkle treatment if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding? +
No. Anti-wrinkle injections are not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Please let us know if there is any possibility you may be pregnant.
What are the side effects of anti-wrinkle injections? +
Common side effects include temporary redness, mild swelling, and small bumps at the injection sites — these usually settle within a few hours. Bruising can occur. Headache is occasionally reported after forehead treatment. Rare but possible side effects include temporary drooping of an eyelid or brow, usually caused by product migration — this resolves completely as the treatment wears off. We discuss all risks at the consultation.
