Facial Contouring in Larkfield, Kent
Facial contouring uses advanced injectable techniques to sculpt and define the shape of the face β enhancing your natural bone structure, restoring balance, and creating the kind of definition that's usually only achievable through surgery. The results are subtle, natural, and entirely reversible.
The basics
What is facial contouring?
Facial contouring is a term used to describe the strategic use of injectable treatments β primarily dermal fillers and botulinum toxin β to reshape and define the proportions of the face. Rather than simply treating a single line or feature in isolation, facial contouring takes a holistic view of the face, assessing how all the features work together and where subtle changes can create the most significant overall improvement.
The goal is always a balanced, harmonious result β enhancing what's already there, not creating something artificial. Think of it as non-surgical facial sculpting: precise, personalised, and reversible.
At Larkfield Dental Aesthetics, our practitioners bring detailed anatomical knowledge to every facial contouring treatment. Understanding how the muscles, fat pads, and bone structure of the face relate to each other β and how they change with age β is essential for achieving results that look truly natural.
Is it right for you?
When would you consider facial contouring?
Facial contouring may be right for you if:
Lack of definition
You've always felt your features lack definition β softer cheekbones, a less-defined jawline, or a recessed chin.
Age-related change
You've noticed your face has changed shape with age β lost volume in some areas, gained softness in others.
Sculpted without surgery
You'd like a stronger, more sculpted appearance without surgery.
Facial symmetry
You want to restore facial symmetry.
Lower face refinement
You'd like to slim the lower face or define the angle of the jaw.
Profile balance
You want to improve your profile β how your face looks from the side.
Facial harmony
You're considering cosmetic dentistry and want to think about overall facial harmony at the same time.
Treatment areas
Our facial contouring treatments
We offer the following facial contouring treatments at Larkfield Dental Aesthetics.
Cheek Sculpting
High, defined cheekbones are a hallmark of a youthful, structured face. Cheek sculpting uses dermal filler placed strategically along and above the cheekbone to restore or enhance the natural projection of the mid-face.
In younger patients, cheek sculpting can enhance naturally flat or full cheeks for a more defined appearance. In older patients, it restores volume that's been lost with age β lifting the overlying skin, reducing the appearance of tear troughs and nasolabial folds, and giving the entire face a more lifted, refreshed look.
The key to successful cheek sculpting is proportion and symmetry. We take measurements and photographs at every treatment to ensure balanced, controlled results.
Jawline Definition
A well-defined jawline creates a clean, structured silhouette for the face. Over time β or simply due to genetics β the jawline can appear soft, undefined, or jowly. Filler placed along the jawline adds structure and sharpness, creating a cleaner line from the chin to the angle of the jaw.
Jawline definition can also involve a combination of filler and botulinum toxin β filler to add structure, and toxin to relax the muscles that pull the lower face downwards or contribute to a wide, square appearance (masseter reduction). The result is a more refined, elegant lower face.
This is one of the most transformative facial contouring treatments, delivering visible improvements that can significantly enhance confidence β particularly when photographed or seen in profile.
Chin Augmentation
The chin is a defining feature of the lower face and plays a significant role in overall facial balance. A chin that lacks projection or height can make the nose appear larger than it is, the neck appear less defined, and the profile less balanced β all without any issue with the nose or neck themselves.
Non-surgical chin augmentation uses dermal filler to add projection, height, or width to the chin, improving facial proportions and creating a more harmonious profile. It's a popular treatment for patients who have considered surgical chin implants but prefer a non-permanent, reversible option.
Results are immediate, require minimal recovery, and can be dissolved at any time if desired.
Lower Face Slimming
A wide or square lower face is often the result of enlarged masseter muscles β the powerful chewing muscles that sit at the angle of the jaw. This can be genetic or caused by teeth grinding (bruxism), which places repetitive, heavy load on the masseters and causes them to bulk up over time.
Botulinum toxin injected into the masseter muscles causes them to gradually reduce in size over several weeks, slimming and softening the appearance of the lower face. The result is a more oval, refined facial shape without any change to the underlying bone.
Lower face slimming has the added benefit of reducing the force of grinding β which in turn protects the teeth from wear. It's one of the few aesthetic treatments that also has a genuine dental health benefit, making it a natural fit within a dental aesthetics practice.
The treatment takes just ten to fifteen minutes. Results develop gradually over four to six weeks and last four to six months, with longer-lasting results often seen after repeated treatment.
How it works
What does a facial contouring treatment involve?
Facial contouring begins with a thorough consultation. We'll assess your face in full, discuss your concerns and goals, take photographs, and put together a treatment plan that addresses your specific anatomy and objectives.
Consultation
We assess your face in full, discuss your concerns and goals, take photographs, and put together a personalised treatment plan.
Treatment
A single area may take 20β30 minutes. Comprehensive multi-area contouring takes longer and can often be completed in one session.
Staged approach
For more significant changes we may treat one area at a time, assess the result, then build from there for the most natural outcome.
Review
A review appointment is recommended two to four weeks after treatment to assess results and make any refinements needed.
Treatment time varies depending on what's being done. Most treatments can be carried out in a single session, though for more significant changes we sometimes recommend a staged approach. A review appointment is recommended two to four weeks after treatment to assess results and make any refinements needed.
Aftercare
Looking after your results
Aftercare for facial contouring is similar to that for individual filler and anti-wrinkle treatments:
- β Avoid touching, pressing, or massaging treated areas for at least 24 hours.
- β Avoid strenuous exercise, heat, and alcohol for 24β48 hours.
- β Sleep on your back for the first night if possible.
- β Attend your review appointment two to four weeks after treatment.
- β Results from filler-based contouring last six to eighteen months depending on the area and product.
- β Masseter reduction results last four to six months, with cumulative results over time.
- β Good skin health β sun protection, hydration, a consistent skincare routine β complements and extends your results.

Questions
Frequently asked
Is facial contouring the same as a liquid facelift? +
A liquid facelift is a term sometimes used to describe a comprehensive non-surgical facial rejuvenation β combining fillers and anti-wrinkle injections across multiple areas to create an overall lifting and refreshing effect. Facial contouring as we offer it is a specific approach focused on defining and sculpting facial structure, rather than purely addressing signs of ageing. The two can overlap, and many patients benefit from elements of both.
How many treatments will I need? +
Many patients achieve excellent results in a single session. For more significant structural changes, or where a very natural, staged approach is preferred, multiple sessions may give a better outcome. We'll give you an honest recommendation based on your goals and starting point.
Will facial contouring look natural on me? +
Yes β when planned carefully and executed with the right technique. We take great care to assess your individual facial proportions and anatomy, and to work with your natural features rather than imposing an idealised look. We use photographs before and after every treatment and always err on the side of a conservative result.
Is there any downtime after facial contouring? +
There is no significant downtime. You may have some swelling, redness, or minor bruising at the injection sites in the first day or two β this is normal and can usually be covered with makeup after 12 hours. Most patients return to work and normal activities the same day.
How is jaw slimming different from a jaw filler? +
These treatments do opposite things. Jaw filler (dermal filler along the jawline) adds definition and structure to a soft or undefined jaw. Jaw slimming (masseter botulinum toxin) reduces the size of the masseter muscles, narrowing the apparent width of the lower face. Both improve the jawline β but in different ways and for different concerns. In some cases, both are used together as part of a complete lower face treatment.
