What are injectable dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are injectable gels — most commonly made from hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the skin — that are placed beneath the skin's surface to add volume, smooth lines, and enhance contours. Hyaluronic acid is water-attracting, which is why it's so effective at restoring the plumpness and hydration that skin naturally loses with age.
Different fillers have different consistencies, designed for different purposes: thinner, softer gels for delicate areas like the lips; denser, more structured gels for deeper folds or areas where more support is needed, such as the cheeks or jawline.

Lip Fillers
Lip filler is one of the most requested aesthetic treatments. We use a careful, conservative approach to lip enhancement — focusing on natural-looking results that complement your facial proportions rather than simply adding volume for the sake of it.
We can use lip fillers to add subtle volume to lips that have thinned with age, define the border of the lips for a crisper outline, restore symmetry to uneven lips, lift the corners of the mouth, and address fine vertical lines above the lip (sometimes called smoker's lines).
We don't do 'overdone' lips. We'll discuss your desired outcome at the consultation and be completely honest about what will look proportionate and natural on your face.
Cheek Fillers
As we age, we lose fat and bone density in the cheeks — leading to a flatter, more sunken mid-face and a hollowing under the eyes. Cheek fillers restore this lost volume, lifting and supporting the overlying skin and giving the face a more youthful, structured appearance.

Carefully placed filler in and around the nasolabial area softens these lines while preserving natural facial movement and expression.
Marionette Line Fillers
Marionette lines run downwards from the corners of the mouth towards the chin, and are named after the strings used to animate marionette puppets. When pronounced, they can create a permanently downturned or unhappy expression — even when the face is completely at rest.

All filler treatments begin with a consultation. The treatment itself is generally quick — most areas take between 15 and 45 minutes depending on how much is being done.

Aftercare
Looking after your skin after dermal fillers
Following your filler treatment, we'll give you specific aftercare advice. In general:
- ✓ Avoid touching, massaging, or pressing the treated area for at least 24 hours.
- ✓ Avoid strenuous exercise and excessive heat (saunas, hot baths, sunbathing) for 24–48 hours.
- ✓ Avoid alcohol for 24 hours — it can increase bruising and swelling.
- ✓ Sleep on your back if possible for the first night to avoid pressure on treated areas.
- ✓ Arnica gel or tablets can help reduce bruising.
- ✓ Avoid makeup on the treated area for at least 12 hours.
- ✓ Attend your two-week review appointment so we can assess the result and make any tweaks needed.
- ✓ Results typically last six to eighteen months depending on the product used and the area treated — we'll advise specifically at your consultation.

Do dermal fillers hurt? +
Most patients find filler treatment very tolerable. We apply a topical numbing cream before treatment, and most modern filler products contain lidocaine (a local anaesthetic) which further reduces discomfort as the treatment progresses. Some areas — particularly the lips — are more sensitive than others. We work carefully and take our time.
What's the difference between fillers and anti-wrinkle injections? +
They work in very different ways. Anti-wrinkle injections (botulinum toxin) relax the muscles that cause expression lines — they don't add volume. Dermal fillers add physical volume beneath the skin to restore fullness, smooth folds, and enhance features. Many patients benefit from both, used together as a complementary approach.
Can fillers be dissolved if I don't like the result? +
Hyaluronic acid fillers — which are what we use — can be dissolved using an enzyme called hyaluronidase. This is a significant safety advantage of HA fillers over other types. Dissolving is quick and effective. We always use HA fillers for exactly this reason.
How long do results last? +
This varies by area and product. Lip fillers typically last four to six months. Cheek and jawline fillers can last twelve to eighteen months. Nasolabial and marionette line treatment typically lasts nine to twelve months. Individual factors including metabolism and lifestyle affect longevity. We'll advise specifically at your consultation.
What are the risks of dermal fillers? +
Common side effects include temporary swelling, redness, and bruising at the injection site — these are normal and usually resolve within a few days. More serious complications are rare but possible, which is why it's essential to have filler treatment carried out by a properly trained medical professional who understands facial anatomy and knows how to manage complications.
